April Mindfulness: Journaling with the Phases of the Moon
So you may have noticed that I didn’t post a new blog the past two Sundays. I promise I didn’t forget about my schedule. I had the idea of journaling with the phases of the moon being my next topic, but I just couldn’t land on how I wanted to execute it. And then, inspiration struck today. With it being the last day of the month, I had the thought of doing a monthly mindfulness guide. The idea is that every month I’ll post a mindfulness exercise to do throughout the month.
So, our first mindfulness guide is journaling with the phases of the moon!
Waxing Crescent — April 1-5: Tiny Steps
The new moon was a few days ago. Now it’s starting to show off again, and so should you. Now’s the time for action, but no pressure! In your journal, brainstorm little steps you can take this month to improve your wellbeing or achieve a goal you’re working towards. Maybe it’s reaching out to a mentor, or just setting aside 10 minutes a day for your new hobby. Keep it fun and doable.
First Quarter — April 6: Time to Tackle
This phase can feel like hitting a bump in the road — totally normal! Challenges pop up to test your commitment. Grab your journal and be honest: What’s blocking you? What’s been hard? And most importantly, how can you pivot and push through?
Waxing Gibbous — April 7-12: Fine-Tuning
You’re almost there, friend! This is the phase for tweaks and polish. Write about what’s working and what needs a little more love. Oh, and don’t forget to pat yourself on the back because progress is progress, no matter how big or small.
Full Moon — April 13: Celebrate!
The moon is shining bright, and so should you! This is your big, sparkly moment of reflection. In your journal, write down what you’ve accomplished and what you’re grateful for.
Waning Gibbous — April 14-20: Share Your Light
The moon starts to wind down, but you’re glowing with wisdom. Use your journal to note what you’ve learned and how you might share that goodness. Whether it’s a heartfelt chat with a friend or a simple social media post, your journey can inspire others.
Last Quarter — April 21: Let It Go
Release mode activated! In this phase, journal about what’s cluttering up your mind and heart. Write it down, and then let it go. Forgive yourself, forgive others, and make space for fresh starts.
Waning Crescent — April 22-27: Rest Up
Time to slow down and get cozy. Pull out your journal and reflect on the entire cycle. What surprised you? What are you proud of? And what are you ready to leave behind before the moon resets? Get ready — a new cycle (and a new chance to grow) is just around the corner.
New Moon — April 28: Fresh Starts
When the moon disappears, it’s time for you to dream big. This is your blank page moment! Light a candle, get cozy, and jot down what you want to achieve in May. What do you want to welcome into your life right now? Go ahead and write it down — no dream is too big or too small.
Journaling with the moon isn’t just about writing — it’s about tuning into a rhythm that’s always there, quietly guiding you to slow down, reflect, and grow. So grab your favorite notebook, make a cup of your fave drink, and let the moonlight (or moonless sky) be your reminder that change is beautiful, and so are you.
